Connect Wave
Last updated
Connecting Wave lets your Modules look up your customers and invoices and save a draft invoice for you, for example, "invoice Acme for 10 hours of consulting." You create a small Wave application of your own and paste its ID and secret into Raileon. Raileon keeps them encrypted.
What your Modules can do
- Find a customer by name or email and see what they currently owe.
- List your invoices with their status (draft, saved, sent, viewed, unpaid, partial, paid, overdue or overpaid), the total, and what is still outstanding.
- Save a draft invoice for a customer who is already in Wave, using products or services you have already set up there. You approve every one first.
What your Modules can't do
- Send or approve an invoice. A draft stays a draft until you send it in Wave yourself.
- Record a payment, charge a card, issue a refund or move money in any way.
- Create, change or delete customers, products or transactions, or change or delete an existing invoice.
Names and notes typed into Wave are treated as information only, never as instructions.
Before you start
- Wave Pro. Wave only lets a business connect a third-party app while it is on a Wave Pro subscription (or a Wave Advisors package). If your business is on the free plan, Wave will refuse the connection until you upgrade.
- A Wave account that can open the Wave developer portal.
- Customers and products already in Wave. A Module can't invoice a customer or an item that isn't there, and it will ask you to add it first. Invoices are created in your business's own currency.
One business per connection
Raileon connects to one Wave business. If your Wave login can see more than one business, the connection is refused with a message saying so, rather than guessing which one to use. Connect with a login that has only the business you want your Modules to work in. Once connected, the Apps card shows the business name.
Create your Wave application
- Sign in to the Wave developer portal with your Wave account, open My Apps, and choose Create an application.
- Give the application a name, for example "Raileon", and a short description.
- In the Redirect URI box, paste the redirect URI that Raileon shows you
when you select Connect. It looks like
https://api.raileon.com/api/integrations/callback/wave. - Save the application, then copy its Client ID and Client Secret.
Connect Wave
Open Apps
In your dashboard, go to Apps in the left sidebar and select Connect on the Wave card.
Paste your application details
Paste the Client ID and Client Secret, then select Save & connect.
Sign in and approve
Sign in to Wave, choose the business to connect, and approve the access. You return to Raileon and the Wave card shows Connected.
Disconnect Wave
Open Apps, find the Wave card, and select Disconnect. To be thorough, also delete the application in the Wave developer portal.
If it stops working
If a Module says Wave needs to be reconnected, select Connect on the card again and approve the access. Wave signs the connection out if the application is deleted, its secret changes, or the business is no longer on Wave Pro.
