Connect Filevine

Last updated

Connecting Filevine lets your Modules look up your cases and add to them, for example, "what is the latest on the Smith matter?" or "add a note that I spoke with the client today."

What your Modules can do

  • Search your cases by case name, client name, or case number.
  • Read a case's details and its most recent notes.
  • Add a note to a case.
  • Create a task on a case, with an optional due date.

Adding a note or a task is held for your approval first, if your workspace requires it. Your Modules can only see the cases that the Filevine service account you create for Raileon can see.

Your Modules do not delete anything, change case details, or work with documents or billing in Filevine.

Before you start

  • You need to be an account admin in Filevine.
  • Create a service account for Raileon in Filevine under Advanced, Service Accounts. Give it access only to the cases you want your Modules to work with, because its permissions are what your Modules get.
  • If you log in to Filevine at a filevine.ca address, you have a Canadian account. Note that for the region field.

Connect Filevine

  1. Open Apps

In your dashboard, go to Apps in the left sidebar and select the Filevine card.

  2. Create a client ID and secret

In Filevine, open Account Manager, then Access Tokens, then Client Secrets, and create one. Copy the Client ID and the Client secret. Filevine shows the secret only once.

  3. Create a personal access token

Still under Access Tokens, open Personal Access Tokens and choose New. Pick the service account, turn on API access, and copy the token.

  4. Paste them into Raileon

Paste the Client ID, Client secret, and personal access token. Leave the region as us, or type ca if you have a Canadian account.

  5. Test and save

Select Test connection. When it passes, save. The Filevine card shows Connected.

Good to know

  • Filevine may limit how fast a new set of credentials can make requests until an account admin accepts Filevine's API terms and completes its short intended-use form. If your Modules are slow to answer at first, check with Filevine.
  • Client secrets expire, by default after a year. If your Modules say Filevine rejected the connection, create a new secret and reconnect.
  • If your firm has more than one Filevine organization, Raileon uses the first one the service account belongs to.

Disconnect Filevine

Open Apps, find the Filevine card, and select Disconnect. You can also delete the client secret or the personal access token in Filevine to cut off access right away.
