Connect Robinhood (crypto)

Last updated

Connecting Robinhood lets your Modules see your crypto holdings, your crypto account status and the current price of a coin, for example to include them in a summary. This is crypto only. Robinhood does not offer an API for stocks, so stocks and other accounts are not included. Robinhood offers this API to customers in the United States.

Raileon can only read. It cannot place, change or cancel an order, buy, sell, send or withdraw, and there is no setting that allows it. It also gives no advice about what to buy or sell. Robinhood does not offer a view-only key, so this limit is built into Raileon itself, not into the key.

What your Modules can do

  • Show your crypto account status and the cash available to spend.
  • List the coins you hold and how much of each.
  • Show the current best bid and ask for a coin, such as Bitcoin in US dollars.

Reading never needs approval, because nothing is changed.

Get your API key from Robinhood

Robinhood signs requests with a key pair that you make yourself.

  1. Follow Robinhood's guide at docs.robinhood.com/crypto/trading to make an Ed25519 key pair. It prints a public key and a private key. Keep the private key safe. Robinhood never asks for it.
  2. On the web, open your Robinhood crypto account settings and create an API credential. Give it your public key.
  3. Copy the API key Robinhood shows you.

Connect Robinhood

  1. Open Apps

In your dashboard, go to Apps in the left sidebar and select Connect on the Robinhood (crypto only) card.

  2. Paste your details

Enter the API key and your private key (44 characters ending in =).

  3. Test and save

Select Test connection. When it passes, save. The card then shows Connected.

Disconnect Robinhood

Open Apps, find the Robinhood card, and select Disconnect. To be thorough, also delete the API credential in your Robinhood crypto account settings.
