Connect Sage

Last updated

Connecting Sage lets your Modules look up your customers, suppliers and sales invoices, for example, "who still owes us money?" The connection is read only. You create a small Sage app of your own and paste its ID and secret into Raileon. Raileon keeps them encrypted.

What your Modules can do

  • Find customers and suppliers by name.
  • List your sales invoices with their status, the total, and what is still outstanding, for one customer or across all of them.

What your Modules can't do

Nothing in Sage can be changed. Raileon asks Sage for read-only access, so Sage itself refuses any change. A Module can't create or edit an invoice, record a payment, post a journal or touch a bank account.

Names and references typed into Sage are treated as information only, never as instructions.

Before you start

You need a Sage Accounting subscription, and the person connecting needs access to the business in Sage. You also need a free Sage developer account to create the app below. The same account works for every country Sage serves.

One business per connection

Raileon connects to one Sage business. If your Sage login can see more than one business, the connection is refused with a message saying so, rather than guessing which one to use. Connect with a login that can see only the business you want your Modules to work in. Once connected, the Apps card shows the business name.

Create your Sage app

  1. Sign in to the Sage developer self service site (developerselfservice.sageone.com) with your Sage login.
  2. Choose Create App.
  3. Fill in the App name, your email address and your website.
  4. In Callback URLs, paste the redirect URI that Raileon shows you when you select Connect. It looks like https://api.raileon.com/api/integrations/callback/sage.
  5. Save the app, then copy its Client ID and Client Secret.

Connect Sage

  1. Open Apps

In your dashboard, go to Apps in the left sidebar and select Connect on the Sage card.

  2. Paste your app details

Paste the Client ID and Client Secret, then select Save & connect.

  3. Sign in and approve

Sign in to Sage and approve read-only access. You return to Raileon and the Sage card shows Connected with the business name.

Disconnect Sage

Open Apps, find the Sage card, and select Disconnect. To be thorough, also delete the app on the Sage developer site.

If it stops working

If a Module says Sage needs to be reconnected, select Connect on the card again. Sage signs a connection out when it has not been used for about a month, or when the app is deleted.
