Connect Google Chat
Last updated
Connecting Google Chat lets your Modules post a message to one of your Google Chat spaces. You paste a webhook link for that space, and Raileon keeps it encrypted.
What your Modules can do
- Post a text message to the space you connected.
That is all. A Google Chat webhook can only post, so your Modules cannot read the space, see who is in it, or reply to a thread. Each message is held until you approve it, and the approval shows the space and the exact text.
Before you start
You need permission to add webhooks to the space. In some Google Workspace accounts an admin has to allow webhooks first. Each space needs its own connection, and you can connect one space at a time.
Create the webhook in Google Chat
- Open the space in Google Chat and select its name at the top.
- Select Apps & integrations, then Webhooks, then Add webhook.
- Give it a name such as Raileon, then save.
- Copy the webhook URL. It starts with
https://chat.googleapis.com/v1/spaces/and includes akeyand atoken.
Treat the link like a password. Anyone who has it can post to the space.
Connect Google Chat
Open Apps
In your dashboard, go to Apps in the left sidebar and select Connect on the Google Chat card.
Paste the link
Paste the full webhook URL. Raileon checks that it is a Google Chat link. It does not post a test message, so the first message your Module sends shows whether it works.
Save
Select Connect. The card then shows Connected.
Disconnect Google Chat
Open Apps, find the Google Chat card, and select Disconnect. To be thorough, also delete the webhook in the space under Apps & integrations.
