Connect Airtable

Last updated

Connecting Airtable lets your Modules look up information in your bases and, when you approve it, add or update records. You paste a personal access token that you create yourself, so you control exactly which bases it can reach.

What your Modules can do

  • Find your bases and see the tables and columns in each one.
  • Read records from a table, or search a column for a name or phrase (up to 50 records at a time).
  • Add a new record to a table.
  • Update some columns of an existing record.

What needs your approval

Looking things up never needs approval. Adding or changing a record always waits for you: your Module drafts the change and you approve it in your dashboard before anything is written to Airtable.

Before you start

  • An Airtable account that can edit the bases you want your Modules to use.
  • A few minutes to create a personal access token. You can revoke it at any time.

Connect Airtable

  1. Open Apps

In your dashboard, go to Apps in the left sidebar and select Connect on the Airtable card.

  2. Create a personal access token

In Airtable, open Builder hub, then Personal access tokens, then Create token. Give it a name you will recognize, such as Raileon.

  3. Choose the scopes

Add these three scopes: data.records:read, data.records:write and schema.bases:read. Leave out write access if you only want your Modules to look things up.

  4. Choose the bases

Under Access, add only the bases you want your Modules to use. The token cannot reach anything you leave out.

  5. Paste it and test

Create the token, copy it (it starts with pat), paste it into the Airtable card in Raileon, and select Test connection. The card shows Connected when it works.

Disconnect Airtable

Open Apps, find the Airtable card, and select Disconnect. To cut off access completely, also delete the token in Airtable under Personal access tokens.
