Connect Meta Business
Last updated
Connecting Meta Business lets your Modules read your Facebook Page's recent posts and publish to the Page and to its linked Instagram account. You create a small Meta app of your own and paste its ID and secret into Raileon. Raileon keeps them encrypted.
Two ways to connect Meta
Raileon has two separate Meta connections. They use different tokens and different tools, so they never interfere with each other.
- Meta Business (this page, on the Apps page). Your own Meta app. Your Modules can read the Page's posts and publish a post to the Page or a photo to Instagram, each one after you approve it. Choose this when you want your Modules to post for you and you are happy to create a Meta app.
- Facebook and Instagram in Settings. Raileon's own Meta app. It is for customer messages on Messenger and Instagram, and for drafts on the Social page that an admin approves and schedules there. Choose this for replying to customers and for drafting inside your dashboard.
You can use both at once. Your AI uses the Meta Business tools only when this connection exists, and it always asks you before posting with either one.
What your Modules can do
- Read your Page's recent posts, with their reaction, comment and share counts, and the Page's follower count.
- Publish a plain-text post on your Page.
- Publish one photo with a caption on the Instagram account linked to your Page. The photo must be a public https link to a JPEG.
Every post waits for your approval, every time. The approval shows the exact text (and the image link for Instagram) and the Page or Instagram account it will post to, which Raileon asks Meta for rather than taking from the Module. Nothing is public until you approve.
What your Modules can't do
- Delete posts, reply to comments, or send messages.
- Post to any Page other than the one you connect.
- Post videos or carousels.
Posts on your Page can include posts by visitors, so your Modules treat what they read as information only, never as instructions.
Before you start
You need to be an admin of the Facebook Page. To post to Instagram, the account must be a professional (business or creator) account linked to that Page. You also need a Meta developer account at developers.facebook.com.
Because the app is yours and you are its admin, it works for your own Page in Meta's Standard Access without sending the app to Meta for review. Leave it in Development mode.
Create your Meta app
- At Meta for Developers, choose Create app, pick the Business type (or Other), and name it.
- Add the Facebook Login product.
- In its settings, paste the redirect URI that Raileon shows you when you
select Connect into Valid OAuth Redirect URIs. It looks like
https://api.raileon.com/api/integrations/callback/meta_business. - Under App settings, Basic, copy the App ID and App secret.
Connect Meta Business
Open Apps
In your dashboard, go to Apps in the left sidebar and select Connect on the Meta Business card.
Paste your app details
Paste the App ID and App secret, then select Save & connect.
Pick exactly one Page
Sign in to Facebook. When Facebook asks which Pages and Instagram accounts to allow, tick one Page and its Instagram account, and leave every permission on. If more than one Page is ticked, or none, the connection is refused so a post cannot go to the wrong Page. You return to Raileon and the card shows Connected.
Disconnect Meta Business
Open Apps, find the Meta Business card, and select Disconnect. To be thorough, also remove the app from your Facebook account under Settings, Business integrations.
If it stops working
If a Module says a permission is missing, select Connect again and leave every permission on. If it says the connection expired, connect again. Changing your Facebook password or removing the app signs the connection out.
