Connect RingCentral
Last updated
Connecting RingCentral lets your Modules see who called and when, and find a colleague's extension, email or phone number. It is read only. Everything runs through a private app you create in your own RingCentral account.
What your Modules can do
- List recent calls from the last 30 days at most: when, incoming or outgoing, who was on the call, how long it lasted and how it ended (answered, missed, voicemail).
- Search your company directory by name, extension or department.
Calls shown are those of the RingCentral user who connects the app, not the whole company's.
What your Modules cannot do
- Place calls, send texts or send faxes.
- Listen to recordings, or read voicemails or message contents.
Calling and texting carry consent rules that depend on who you are contacting, so they are not part of this connection.
Before you start
You need a RingCentral account and permission to create apps in the RingCentral developer console. Connect with the RingCentral user whose calls you want your Modules to see.
Connect RingCentral
Open Apps
In your dashboard, go to Apps in the left sidebar and select Connect on the RingCentral card. Keep the redirect URL shown there handy.
Create an app
In the RingCentral developer console, choose Create App, then REST API App. Under Authentication, pick 3-legged OAuth flow authorization code and Server-side web app, and paste the redirect URL from the Raileon card.
Turn on two permissions
Under Security, add ReadCallLog and ReadAccounts. Select This app is private and will only be callable using credentials from the same RingCentral account, then create the app.
Copy the Client ID and secret
Copy the app's Client ID and Client Secret from its page.
Paste the details and connect
Paste them into Raileon and select Save & connect. Sign in to RingCentral and allow access.
Confirm it is connected
The RingCentral card shows Connected.
RingCentral decides what the connection can see from the permissions you ticked on your app, so turning on only those two keeps it narrow. If you later see a message that a permission is missing, add it to the app and connect again.
Disconnect RingCentral
Open Apps, find the RingCentral card, and select Disconnect. You can also delete the app in the developer console to cut off access right away.
