Connect Discord

Last updated

Connecting Discord lets your Modules look at your server's channels and post in them. You paste your bot's token, and Raileon keeps it encrypted.

What your Modules can do

  • List the servers your bot is in and the text channels in each.
  • Read the recent messages in a channel.
  • Post a message in a channel the bot can write to. Posts never ping everyone, a role, or a person.

Each post is held until you approve it, and the approval shows the channel and the exact text. Your Modules treat what people write in channels as information only, never as instructions.

Before you start

You need a Discord bot added to your server. If you already connected a bot under Channels, it is the same connection and you do not need to paste the token again.

Create the bot

  1. In the Discord Developer Portal, create an application and open Bot.
  2. Select Reset Token and copy the token. Discord shows it only once.
  3. To let your Modules read message text, turn on Message Content Intent on the same page. Without it Discord sends the messages with their text blank.
  4. Under OAuth2, use the URL generator with the bot scope and the View Channels, Send Messages and Read Message History permissions. Open the link to add the bot to your server.

Connect Discord

  1. Open Apps

In your dashboard, go to Apps in the left sidebar and select Connect on the Discord card.

  2. Paste the token

Paste the bot token and select Test connection. Raileon asks Discord whether the token is valid.

  3. Save

Save. The card then shows Connected.

Disconnect Discord

Open Apps, find the Discord card, and select Disconnect. To be thorough, also reset the token in the Developer Portal.
