Connect Coinbase
Last updated
Connecting Coinbase lets your Modules see your account balances and the current price of a coin, for example to include your holdings in a summary. You paste a key name and a private key from Coinbase, and Raileon keeps them encrypted.
Raileon can only read. It cannot buy, sell, send, convert, or withdraw, and there is no setting that allows it. It also gives no advice about what to buy or sell. For extra safety, you create a key that Coinbase itself limits to viewing.
What your Modules can do
- List the balances in your account, one line per coin or currency.
- Show the current price of a coin, such as Bitcoin in US dollars.
Reading never needs approval, because nothing is changed.
Create a view-only key in Coinbase
- In the Coinbase Developer Platform, open API keys and create a key.
- Choose the ECDSA signature algorithm. Raileon cannot use the other kind.
- Turn on the View permission only. Leave Trade and Transfer off.
- Copy the API key name (it starts with
organizations/) and the private key (a block of text that starts with-----BEGIN EC PRIVATE KEY-----). Coinbase shows the private key only once.
Connect Coinbase
Open Apps
In your dashboard, go to Apps in the left sidebar and select Connect on the Coinbase card.
Paste your details
Enter the API key name, then paste the whole private key, including the first and last lines.
Test and save
Select Test connection. When it passes, save. The Coinbase card then shows Connected.
Disconnect Coinbase
Open Apps, find the Coinbase card, and select Disconnect. To be thorough, also delete the key in the Coinbase Developer Platform.
