Connect Telegram

Last updated

Connecting Telegram lets your Modules read the messages your bot receives and send messages from it. You paste your bot's token, and Raileon keeps it encrypted.

What your Modules can do

  • Read the recent text messages your bot received, with the chat each one came from.
  • Send a text message from your bot to a chat or group it is in.

Telegram only keeps a bot's incoming messages for 24 hours, and has no history to look back through, so older messages cannot be read. Reading also does not work while another system is receiving the bot's messages. If you also use Channels with the same bot, reading can come back empty because Channels is receiving the messages. Each message your Module sends is held until you approve it, and the approval shows the chat and the exact text. Your Modules treat what people write in chats as information only, never as instructions.

Before you start

You need a Telegram bot. If you already connected a bot under Channels, it is the same connection and you do not need to paste the token again.

Create the bot

  1. In Telegram, message @BotFather and send /newbot.
  2. Follow the prompts. BotFather replies with a token that looks like 123456789:ABC....
  3. Add the bot to the group or channel it should post in. A bot can message a person only after that person has messaged it first.

Connect Telegram

  1. Open Apps

In your dashboard, go to Apps in the left sidebar and select Connect on the Telegram card.

  2. Paste the token

Paste the bot token and select Test connection. Raileon asks Telegram whether the token is valid.

  3. Save

Save. The card then shows Connected.

Disconnect Telegram

Open Apps, find the Telegram card, and select Disconnect. To be thorough, also revoke the token with BotFather using /revoke.
