Connect Bill.com

Last updated

Connecting Bill.com lets your Modules see what you owe and what you are owed, and record a new bill from a vendor for you to review. You create two things in your own Bill.com account, a developer key and a sync token, and paste them into Raileon along with your organization ID. Raileon keeps them encrypted. You never share your Bill.com password.

What your Modules can do

  • List the bills you still owe, soonest due first, with the vendor, due date, amount and status.
  • Look up your vendors.
  • List the invoices you have issued to your customers, with their status and what is still due.
  • Record a new bill for a vendor that is already in Bill.com, with the vendor's invoice number, dates and line items. You approve every one first.

What your Modules can't do

  • Pay a bill, schedule a payment or approve a bill. A recorded bill is left for you to review and pay in Bill.com yourself. Bill.com does not allow a sync token to make payments at all.
  • Send an invoice, charge a customer or move money in any way.
  • Add or change vendors, bank accounts or customers, or change or delete an existing bill or invoice.

Names, invoice numbers and notes in Bill.com are treated as information only, never as instructions.

Before you start

You need to sign in to Bill.com as an admin who can open Settings. The vendor you want a bill recorded for must already exist in Bill.com. A Module can't record a bill for a vendor that isn't there.

Find your details in Bill.com

  1. Developer key and organization ID. In Bill.com, open Settings, then Sync & Integrations, then Manage Developer Keys. Choose Generate developer key and accept the terms. The key can take up to a minute to appear. Copy it. Your Organization ID is shown at the bottom of the same page. It starts with 008.
  2. Sync token. Open Settings, then Sync & Integrations, then Tokens, and choose NEW. Enter a name, for example "Raileon", and save. The name you typed is the sync token name. Bill.com then shows the sync token itself. Copy both.

Connect Bill.com

  1. Open Apps

In your dashboard, go to Apps in the left sidebar and select Connect on the Bill.com card.

  2. Paste your details

Enter the developer key, organization ID, sync token name and sync token.

  3. Test and save

Select Test connection. It only signs in and out. When it passes, save. The Bill.com card then shows Connected.

Disconnect Bill.com

Open Apps, find the Bill.com card, and select Disconnect. To be thorough, also delete the sync token in Bill.com under Settings, Sync & Integrations, Tokens, and the developer key under Manage Developer Keys.

If it stops working

If a Module says Bill.com rejected the connection, the sync token or developer key may have been deleted or changed. Create new ones as above and connect again.
