Connect Shopify
Last updated
Connecting Shopify lets your Modules answer questions about your store, for example, "where is order 1042?" or "do we have the blue mug in stock?"
What your Modules can do
- Look up orders by order number, customer name or email, or status.
- Search your customers by name, email, or phone.
- List your products with how many of each variant are in stock.
- Add a note or a tag to an order. This waits for your approval first, if your workspace requires it.
Your Modules can never refund, cancel, edit prices, or ship an order. The only change they can make is adding a note or a tag.
Orders from the last 60 days are available. Shopify keeps older orders hidden unless a store has granted a separate permission, and Raileon does not ask for it.
Permissions to grant
Give the app exactly these Admin API access scopes, and nothing else:
- read_orders
- read_customers
- read_products
- write_orders (only used to add notes and tags to orders)
Before you start
- You need to be the store owner or a staff member who can manage apps.
- Have your store's .myshopify.com address ready. You can see it in the address bar when you are in your Shopify admin, for example your-store.myshopify.com.

Make an app in your store
In your Shopify admin, open Settings, then Apps and sales channels, then Develop apps, and create an app named Raileon. If you do not see that option, make the app in the Shopify Dev Dashboard under your own organization instead.
Choose the permissions
Under the app's API access, select the four scopes listed above and nothing else.
Install the app and copy the credentials
Install the app on your store. For an app made in your admin, reveal and copy the Admin API access token. Shopify shows it only once. For an app made in the Dev Dashboard, copy the Client ID and Client secret instead.
Paste them into Raileon
In your dashboard, go to Apps and select the Shopify card. Enter your store domain and either the access token or the Client ID and Client secret.
Test and save
Select Test connection. When it passes, save. The Shopify card shows Connected.
Good to know
- Shopify no longer lets new stores create apps from the admin. If your store does not offer Develop apps, use the Dev Dashboard path with a Client ID and Client secret. It must be made under the same organization that owns the store. Raileon asks Shopify for a fresh short-lived token each time, so there is nothing to renew.
- If your Modules say a permission is missing, check that all four scopes are granted on the app and that you installed it after choosing them.
Disconnect Shopify
Open Apps, find the Shopify card, and select Disconnect. You can also uninstall the app in your Shopify admin to cut off access right away.
