Connect PracticePanther
Last updated
Connecting PracticePanther lets your Modules look up your matters and add to them, for example, "what is the latest on the Smith matter?", "add a note that I spoke with the client today" or "log an hour on the Jones matter."
What your Modules can do
- Search your matters by matter or client name, among open, pending or closed matters.
- Read a matter's details and its most recent notes.
- Add a note to a matter.
- Create a task on a matter, with an optional due date. It is assigned to the person who connected PracticePanther.
- Log a billable time entry on a matter, billed by that same person.
Each note, task and time entry is held for your approval first, and the approval names the matter and the person it is recorded as.
Your Modules see the matters that the connecting person can see in PracticePanther. They do not touch invoices, payments, trust or bank accounts, and they do not edit or delete anything.
Get access from PracticePanther first
PracticePanther turns its API on by request, for firms that ask.
- Contact PracticePanther support and ask for API access on your account (their article on API access is linked from the PracticePanther card in Raileon). Tell them the redirect URL shown on the card in Raileon, because PracticePanther registers it for your app.
- Once access is on, create an app as PracticePanther's guide describes. They give you a client ID and a client secret.
Connect PracticePanther
Open Apps
In your dashboard, go to Apps in the left sidebar and select Connect on the PracticePanther card. Keep the redirect URL shown there handy.
Paste your client ID and secret
Paste the client ID and client secret of your PracticePanther app and select Save & connect.
Sign in and allow access
Sign in to PracticePanther as the person whose matters your Modules should see, and allow access.
Confirm it is connected
The PracticePanther card shows Connected.
Good to know
- PracticePanther has no narrower permission levels, so the connection can reach everything the signed-in person can. Connect as a person whose access you are comfortable with.
- PracticePanther lets a sign-in lapse after about two weeks without use. Raileon refreshes it in the background. If you see a message that PracticePanther rejected the connection, connect again.
- PracticePanther returns every matter that matches a search, so a very short search on a large firm can be slow. A name works best.
Disconnect PracticePanther
Open Apps, find the PracticePanther card, and select Disconnect. You can also ask PracticePanther support to turn off your app to cut off access right away.
