5 tips for naming a lawn care business

  1. Leave room to grow past mowing. If you may add mulching, hedge trimming, leaf cleanup or irrigation later, "lawn" or "yard" covers more than "mowing" does.
  2. Name the result, not the mower. Customers pay for a lawn that looks cared for, so words like stripe, even, neat and kept say more than engine or equipment words.
  3. Think about the off-season. If you'll offer leaf cleanup or snow removal in colder months, skip words that only fit summer, like "sunny" or "summer".
  4. Pass the trailer test. Your name will ride on a trailer and sit on yard signs, so keep it to about three short words that read from across the street.
  5. Make it easy to pass along. Neighbors will tell each other about you, so say the name out loud once: if the other person asks how to spell it, pick a simpler one.
